Territorial ramifications of an attack on Iraq (end 2002) |
||||||||||
Both houses of the U.S. Congress overwhelmingly passed resolutions authorizing the U.S. to attack Iraq even without United Nations consent. The legislators insist, however, that diplomatic efforts must be made to obtain this consent. The votes were followed by militant war cries by both American and Iraqi officials.
President Bush promised "no negotiations with Iraq. Its days as an outlaw state are nearing their end," while Iraq's Tarik Aziz said, "If America attacks, we will be ready within an hour."
Looking a little further ahead is Infrastructures Minister Effie Eitam (National Religious Party). Speaking with the B'Sheva newspaper this week, the Brig.-Gen. (res.) said, "If the Iraqi issue ends, I see a possibility wherein the entire area of Jordan and Iraq become the area of two [different] countries. Today, each of them has a minority that is disrupting the entire region.
I am referring to the Kurds [in Iraq] and the Palestinians. I foresee a situation in which the areas of Jordan and Iraq will be re-divided, and in each one a new country will be formed: A Palestinian state in most of Jordan's territory, and a Kurdish state. If a solution for the Kurds is found, tensions will decrease in Turkey, Syria, and Iraq. If a solution is found for the Palestinians on the other side of the Jordan River, the tensions here will decrease. [This will form] a ring around Syria, made up of Israel, the new Jordan, the new Iraq, and Lebanon. All of them demand that Syria stop supporting Hizbullah. This will allow us to sign a peace agreement with Lebanon within a short time. [In short,] I see the defeat of the Iraqi regime as changing the entire Middle East." Arutz-7 News Brief: Friday, Oct. 11, 2002
Zionsake view: Minister Effie
Eitam tries to see a scenario developing in line with his vision of transferring
the Arabs presently living on the west side of the of the Jordan River (in
Israel) to the east side, especially to Jordan. In our view, he does not
realize that Jordan is most probably going to revert back to Israel since
it is part of the original area Mandate for a Jewish homeland. Secondly he
does not realize the full extent of war action that might take place east
of the Jordan from north to south. Furthermore, Hisbullah will also enter
into the conflict and draw in Lebanon with them. It will most probably cause
the security zone Israel had maintained to be again revert to her control
- it is necessitated by the importance to secure the water resources vital
to replenish the Kinneret. Israel has in any case more right historically
to the land than the Lebanese - see "Past & Future Boundaries of Israel"

Israel a Refuge
Obad 15 The Lord's vengeance will soon fall upon all Gentile nations. As
you have done to Israel, so will it be done to you. Your acts will boomerang
upon your heads. 16 You drank my cup of punishment upon my holy mountain,
and the nations round about will drink it too; yes, they will drink and stagger
back and disappear from history, no longer nations any more.
17 "But Jerusalem will become a refuge, a way of
escape. Israel will reoccupy the land. 18 Israel will be a fire
that sets the dry fields of Edom aflame. There will be no survivors," for
the Lord has spoken.
19 Then my people who live in the Negeb shall occupy the hill country of
Edom; those living in Judean lowlands shall possess the Philistine plains
and repossess the fields of Ephraim and Samaria. And the people of Benjamin
shall possess Gilead.
20 The Israeli exiles shall return and occupy the Phoenician coastal strip
as far north as Zarephath. Those exiled in Asia Minor shall return to their
homeland and conquer the Negeb's outlying villages. 21 For deliverers will
come to Jerusalem and rule all Edom. And the Lord shall be King! TLB
